It’s not always about the money…sometimes it’s about giving back, especially when children are involved.
Recently I sent out a plea to fellow PAC photographers to offer up pieces of their work to have displayed at the Arizona Museum for Youth (AMY) in Mesa, Arizona for its new exhibit, “Weather or Not: Art with Atmosphere.” I started at the museum part time back in October, and when I heard that the upcoming exhibit had to do with weather, I offered up some of my own haboob and cloud photos. To my dismay, I realized that I had accidentally “dumped” my original files, and only had my low res files that I’d uploaded to Facebook left. It was crunch time, so I told Jeffory Morris, museum curator, that I would enlist the help of fellow photogs! Thank GOODNESS a number of folks came to the rescue with some AMAZING shots! Three photographers’ works were chosen, among them, Kim Gray, Nicholas Pappagallo Jr., and Brian Blakesley.
These folks offered up their work without the expectation of getting paid. Instead, they came forth for a “cause,” and I was touched by their generosity. Jeffory took their digital files and enlarged them jumbo size to have on display for families, students, and the general public to see what kinds of weather Arizona has to offer.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to catch Brian in front of his work, but here are a couple shots of Kim and Nick hanging out in the museum, as well as shots of them next to their pieces.
So, if you’re ever in the downtown Mesa area, stop on by AMY (soon to become the idea Museum…imagination, design, experience, art after our renovation in June) to see our exhibit, and to “become a kid again” with the cool GIANT Light Bright board we have, as well as LEGOS…who doesn’t LOVE LEGOS? If you’re a fellow photog, please be sure to say hello if I’m working! I’d love to meet more of you, especially if you’re willing to contribute work to the museum. We change out our exhibits every three to four months, and we’d love to give exposure to our local “artists!” Thanks again, Kim, Nick, and Brian! You’re the BEST!
Peace, Love, Hugs, and Photos!
